Critic Reviews About Now You See Me 2
The main sleight-of-hand at play in the illusion-themed sequel, “Now You See Me 2,” will be convincing audiences that a single oddball idea can support a successful franchise.
It’s an impressively starry cast, but sadly, this lacks the charm, wit and, yes, magic of the original. You’ll like it, not a lot.
Much like its predecessor, this heist thriller’s main driving force is the stylized, large-scale magic tricks that the film uses to both dazzle and take the audience behind the scenes.

Common Sense Media
It’s fun to be fooled. But Now You See Me 2 leaves viewers feeling scammed.
A big-budget sequel that packs a lot more ridiculous and pointless CGI flash up its cinematic sleeves than anything approaching artful maneuvering.
The sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, takes the worst elements of the first—a bloated plot, excessive CGI—and doubles down on them over an exhausting 129-minute running time.
Hypnosis, in both films, is central to justifying an absurd array of improbable behaviors here (well beyond barking like a dog).
Is anything in the Now You See Me-verse actually real? Or is it twists all the way down?
Despite some entertaining moments, Now You See Me 2 is largely an exercise of style over substance when it’s all said and done.
