Critic Reviews About Baby Driver
Will resonate most with audiences that skew young, hip, and, like its helmer and its hero (the latter played by baby-faced “The Fault in Our Stars” star Ansel Elgort), more than a little obsessive.
An awe-inspiring piece of filmmaking from Edgar Wright that plays out as a musical through the lens of an action thriller. Sweet, funny and utterly original — you won’t see a film like it this year.
“Baby Driver” aestheticizes gun violence much in the same way it lifts up the now-kitschy, now-cool songs on its soundtrack: as playful, self-impressed pastiche.
This is the first thriller I’ve seen in a long time that feels handmade.
Forget nitrous: This film is fueled by iPod. But like Baby himself, the movie runs into plenty of obstacles.
Whenever Elgort’s Baby is behind the wheel, this movie is a ballet of stylish automotive mayhem — but the minute everyone gets out, things quickly slump into stereotypes. One last job, really?
Common Sense Media
This is not a philosophy of criminology, or a new pathology of antisocial behavior, but it makes for a terrific night at the movies.
Wall Street Journal
Baby Driver is an exhilarating and tense thrill ride that’s infectious with its high-octane energy, sheer creativity, and strong performances.
